Why You Should Choose Vinyl Windows

Whether you are replacing a window or constructing a new home, it is our desire to  provide windows that are energy-efficient, effortless to maintain and look classy. This is not hard to find – all you need is to install vinyl windows.

In fact, vinyl windows have grown in popularity over aluminum, wood and fiberglass. Here's why:
The Advantages of Vinyl Windows

1.      Energy Efficiency

Vinyl windows have excellent insulation. They are versatile – able to keep you warm during winter months and blocking heat from entering during summer time. How so? Well, vinyl windows are made from plastic called polyvinyl chloride which is commonly known as PVC. The material used is considered to have a high R value – the determining factor of the degree of insulation that a particular material can provide.

One good reason for its appeal is its energy efficiency and its ability to control the temperature – if it’s cold outside; it keeps you warm inside and vice versa. That being said, your energy bill is greatly reduced as compared to a single or even a double pane glass.

2.      Low Maintenance

Being low maintenance is one of the top reasons why vinyl windows are gaining popularity to homeowners – they are effortless to maintain. No need to engage in sanding or repainting every 12 months or so; which means…your house can look as new as it was when first installed. Because of its durable surface, having already been stained, finished and sealed; makes it last longer than other types of materials.

More so, it is dirt resistant, mold and UV resistant – assures you that it won’t easily fade or wear out. It simply is better and more cost-effective than wood or aluminum windows.

3.      Design

This is one remarkable benefit you can get from using vinyl windows – the diversity of its design. It is not only cost effective and energy efficient but you can have the design and look you want for your windows. This is because vinyl, can easily be molded, painted and shaped according to the design of your window – whether existing or new.
You can also choose shiny, matte or faux wood finishes. You can customized them just the way you envision them – the number of panes, the function style, and the lock!
So, tell me…what better option can you think of? Start customizing your windows now without having to worry of its energy efficiency, cost and style.

Top 5 Questions You Need To Ask Prior To Renovation

According to the Home Improvement Research Institute, expenditures for renovations this year will reach as much as $36 billion and rising. That said, it is wise to know some nitty-gritty facts prior to renovation to avoid excessive and unnecessary expenses to occur.

Before indulging yourself into some house renovation, you need to ask these questions:

1.       Am I going to do some minor renovation or am I ready for an overall home renovation?
Doing some minor changes at home is fine but there are certain factors you need to keep in mind; say you want to change your kitchen sink, make sure that you already know the type, size, number of holes for the faucet and sprayer etc… You need to consider the long term usage of your sink. Adding holes later on is not only grueling but also expensive on your part.

2.       Am I ready for the distractions, noises, commotion etc…?
Remember that renovating your house entails some disruptions, loud noises, commotion and the like. If you are at home most of the time, then you are likely to encounter all these types of distractions. The question is, are you ready? Keep in mind that renovations could take weeks, months or even longer. With that, you must also ensure that the contractor provides you with a schedule especially if you have major renovations done to your house. Ask them as to when the bathroom, the kitchen or any part of the home will begin renovating and when it will be finished. You know how it is to have no bathroom or kitchen to use, right? It’s really a hassle to the whole family. So to avoid getting into such a dilemma, it is best to know the work schedule of your contractor.

Or you can opt to stay for a while with your in-laws.  But still it can cause some discomfort to you and your family.

3.       How long will I still be staying in my home after the renovation?
If you are planning to transfer after five years, make sure to keep in mind your potential buyers so you will have basis on the kind of renovation to make. But if you’re staying there till you get old, then you can be as artistic and stylish with your design.

4.        Is the renovation keeping with the style of your home?
Your renovation should match the theme of the exterior and the interior design of your home. So if you want to have a Victorian style home, then it should reflect the same style inside your house. Anything mismatch is an eyesore, you know that. Even when you dress-up for a party, matching your clothing with your shoes and bags is very important.

5.       Is it reasonable to consider some DIY jobs?
DIY or do-it-yourself jobs may sound good in terms of saving some money on renovations, but you need to consider also some important factors like: do you have the time to do it? If you are working full time, can you still do some renovating after work? Who is going to prepare the meals if you will have to be doing carpentry or painting jobs when you get home? Can you finish the job on time? What seems to be an easy task may take a week to finish…are you prepared to give a week doing the renovation?

If you have the answers to all these questions, then you are now ready to start.  Knowing what lies ahead during the renovation period will not give you headache and will be much easier to adjust particularly with your day to day activities at home.
